Just another beaty shoot – Lighting tutorial 011
Lighting setup:
I placed two soft-boxes 3×4 on top of each other; in front of the model. Both were facing her with a 45 degree angle; The top box was facing down, and the second one was facing up. The background looked brighter in the raw images; I made them completely black using Photoshop.

Beaches & Cream shoot – Outdoor lighting tutorial 013
There’s a challenge in every shoot I do. This one’s was; time! we had to do this shoot in 3 hours; including make up and hair styling time. Shooting time was 1:45 hours only. I’m glad we managed to do that, and I’m so happy with the result.
Lighting setup:
Sunlight + Silver reflector
Team: Fashion stylist: Mo Al Falasi, Make up: Zareen Shah, Hair stylist: Lee Bennet, Model Genevieve @Bareface

Photographing babies/portraits using natural light – Photograpy lighting tutorial 019
For indoor shooting during the day.. your window is the best source of light. You could use a white A4 paper to soften the shadows on the other side of the face. Place your subject between the window and the white paper, or maybe a white wall. This is the easiest way to take portraits using natural light; especially babies. A Flash light scares babies and distracts them; sometimes it makes them cry… The same thing happens when photographing animals, especially horses, except that horses don’t cry!
Here’s an example – Say hello to my nephew Mohammad…(Notice how the red jacket has also reflected some color on his face).. Experiment and enjoy.
P.S The photo used in this tutorial hasn’t been Photoshopped.

“A Happy Birthday” shoot. Using candles instead of lights – Photography lighting tutorial 014
In Arabic, we refer to “Watts” as “Candles”, so a 100 watts light bulb is called a 100 candles lamp. It’s like the engine power measured by horses… So I decided to replace my actual lights with candles! I couldn’t light a 100 candles though. Only 60. So I placed 30 candles to one side of the model, and another 30 on the other side. I was surprised and happy with the result.
Enjoy!
